EMEEN is proud to congratulate Dr Linda Boniface Oyama, Senior Lecturer in Microbiomics, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), and One Health at Queen’s University Belfast, on her outstanding achievement as a speaker at TEDxQueens. Her talk, titled “A Future Without Researchers is a Future Without Solutions.” represents an extraordinary blend of scientific insight, human empathy, and forward-looking vision.

Dr Oyama’s work sits at the intersection of microbiology, global health, and interdisciplinary innovation. As the founder of the AMR & One Health Lab at Queen’s in 2022, she has already built a vibrant research ecosystem involving doctoral researchers, postdoctoral scholars, and collaborators across academia, industry, and government. Her leadership in coordinating the UKRI-funded Futures AMR Network reflects her deep commitment to empowering early-career researchers and strengthening the collective capacity needed to address antimicrobial resistance, one of the world’s most urgent and complex health challenges.

Her TEDxQueens talk shines a light on the invisible but growing global threat of AMR, reminding us that antimicrobial resistance is not only a scientific problem but a societal one. Dr Oyama invites us to understand AMR through the lenses of curiosity, compassion, and collaboration. By framing science alongside lived experience, digital innovation, and the everyday realities faced by young researchers, she offers a refreshing and human-centred approach to tackling an issue that will shape the future of global healthcare.

What sets Linda apart is her ability to communicate the gravity of AMR while nurturing optimism. Through relatable storytelling, scientific clarity, and reflections on today’s realities, she encourages audiences to imagine a world where research, compassion, and collective responsibility work hand in hand. Her leadership is not only advancing responsible antimicrobial use and evidence-based policy, but also inspiring a new generation of researchers who are eager to make meaningful contributions to tackling AMR
